Published national guides put a typical garage door repair at about $155 to $380. That is the median of the low and high ends from 3 consumer price guides. It is a national estimate, and we have not yet verified Maryland prices by phone.
Average garage door repair cost
Two consumer guides both report an average near $265 per repair. A third puts its range at $191 to $355 per door. Guides written by service companies and contractor software firms quote wider ranges, up to $600, because they include bigger jobs. Those are in the sources table below.
The average is a useful anchor, but one repair is not like another. A sensor adjustment and a broken cable are different jobs with different parts and different labor.
Typical jobs and what guides say about them
- Spring replacement. See our spring replacement cost guide. Published ranges run from about $155 to $350.
- Spring and cable together. One guide prices the combined job at $200 to $500.
- Panel damage. One guide puts sectional door repairs at $150 to $400, with panel replacement at the top of that range. See dented garage door repair cost.
- Small fixes. One guide lists remote reprogramming at $100 to $350 and sensor realignment at $150 to $250. (HomeAdvisor)
- Whole door. When repairs stack up, one guide gives $754 to $1,707 for a replacement door.
What moves the price
- The part that failed. Springs and cables cost more than sensors or rollers.
- Door size and material. Wood doors are more expensive to repair than steel or aluminum, according to one guide.
- The visit itself. Guides report minimum service fees of roughly $75 to $200. Ask if the fee is credited toward the repair.
- Timing. Emergency and after-hours calls often cost more. We have no verified figures.
How to compare quotes
Get the same three answers from every company: what is failing, what exactly the quote covers, and whether the service call fee is included. A low number that leaves out parts is not a low price.
